Priti Jain, MD
As an ER physician with more than 20 year of experience, my first reaction of dealing with patients with addiction and opioid use disorders was to avoid them. One encounter changed that! I saw a 30-year-old woman who started her opioid addiction with Percocet and had subsequently moved to heroin. I saw her for a bad reaction related to IV drug abuse. That was a turning point towards seeing patients with opioid use disorders.
As a healthcare professional, I realized I had to address the problem head-on and I started to wonder what I could do to help so that I wouldn’t lose another patient. That is what started my journey on suboxone therapy. I got trained to prescribe suboxone in 2010. Since then I have subsequently detoxed many patients.
